Starmer to Sunak: Stand up to ERG and ‘Brexit purity cult’
Sir Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party, has called on PM Rishi Sunak to take a stand against the brexiters of the European Research Group (ERG) and the “Brexit purity cult”.
In a forceful and formal address delivered in Northern Ireland, Starmer urged Sunak to take a firm stance against the ERG and the ‘Brexit purity cult’, and to prioritize the interests of the British people over their own. He argued that the ERG Tory MPs are only interested in their own narrow agenda, and that their actions are damaging the country.
“Whatever political cover you need, whatever mechanisms in Westminster you require, if it delivers for our national interest and the people of Northern Ireland – we will support you,” Starmer said. “The time for action on the protocol is now. The time to stand up to the ERG is now. The time to put Northern Ireland above a Brexit purity cult, which can never be satisfied – is now.”
