In a recent interview, Zac Goldsmith, former international environment minister, criticised fellow Tories for their handling of climate commitments.
Z ac Goldsmith, former international environment minister, recently spoke out in a candid interview about his concerns over how the UK government is handling green policies and climate commitments. His frank comments shed light on the internal conflicts within the Tory party and the potential implications for the environment.
Goldsmith didn’t hold back in his criticism of Michael Gove and Grant Shapps. He described Gove as a ‘monster’ if he continues to dismiss green policies despite understanding the urgency of the climate crisis. Meanwhile, he accused Shapps, the energy and net zero secretary, of taking ‘backward steps’ in his approach to climate policy.
“Michael is one of the most intelligent people in politics, whether you love him or hate him. He’s got a big brain, and he understands these issues.
“I don’t think you can understand and care about the gravity of this issue, and at the same time, be willing to take your foot off the accelerator for political expediency. I just think that would require you to be a monster.”
