The US Government is set to reintroduce a free COVID-19 home testing programme next week. This initiative acknowledges the ongoing threat of COVID-19 variants. After a period where free testing became scarce, the move aims to provide accessible testing options once again.
S tarting 25 September 2023, the US Government will recommence its programme offering free COVID-19 home tests. This marks a pivotal step in addressing the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced that every household in the United States can request up to four free COVID-19 tests. These tests will be shipped via the United States Postal Service.
To request the tests, they will need to visit the COVIDTests.gov website, set to go live on 25 September.
The HHS has also revealed plans for a substantial investment of $600 million across 12 COVID test manufacturers to provide the US Government with approximately 200 million new over-the-counter COVID tests.
